Caleb Westphal hasn’t missed a Friday fish fry since 2013. Follow his never-ending adventures—sponsored by Miller High LifeHERE.

The year 2024 in fish frys may well go down as one of the most consistently good ones of my 11 years of eating a fish fry every Friday. This is most easily evidenced in that I included almost half of the fish frys I had this year on the best Milwaukee-area fish frys of 2024 list—and I would have included even more if some of the restaurants I went to would have been closer to Milwaukee. This list consists of places I wrote about this year that I gave a “Recommended” stamp, other places I wrote about this year that also rose to a high level (those I consider honorable mentions), and places I’ve written about in a previous year that also hit a high mark in 2024.

There are also a few Milwaukee-area fish frys that were some of the best of the year for reasons beyond the food, like the one where I rode the Hop, the one I had with County Executive David Crowley, and the one that was catered to my wedding. Although, the place that catered my wedding, Kegel’s Inn, would be on the list because of the meal itself, too. They never disappoint. But let’s get to the full list.

First, the three places I wrote about that I gave the coveted “Recommended” designation:

Stagecoach Inn (Fort Atkinson)

The Station Pub & Grill (Pewaukee)

The Gingerbread House (Muskego)

Next, places I wrote about this year that also were highly satisfactory:

Joe Mama’s Bar & Grill (Colgate)

Thirsty’s (South Milwaukee)

The Sawmill Inn (Richfield)

Studz Pub (West Allis)

Sts. Constantine & Helen Greek Orthodox Church (Wauwatosa) (seasonal)

Joey Gerard’s (Greendale)

Fox & Hounds (Hubertus)

South Bound Again (Oak Creek)

Union Park Tavern (Kenosha)

Swiss Street Pub & Grille (Franklin)

Tailgaters (Caledonia)

The Duck Inn Supper Club (Delavan)

Relish (Germantown)

Alioto’s (Wauwatosa)

North Lake Bear Trap (North Lake)

Lastly, places that I’ve previously written about that I returned to this year that rose to a high level:

Clifford’s (Hales Corners)

Coach’s Pub ‘N’ Grill (Milwaukee)

Packing House (Milwaukee) (drive-thru)

Steak House 100 (West Allis)

The Range Line Inn (Mequon)

Pat’s Oak Manor (South Milwaukee)

IN MEMORIAM

Brewtown Eatery

Company Brewing

Dicken’s Grille & Spirits (now Burnsie’s Bar & Grill)

Dobie’s

Pistol Pete’s Pizza and Neighborhood Grill

Sabrosa Cafe & Gallery

Thistle & Shamrock

Wegner’s St. Martins Inn
