“This is a continuation of the current museum.”

So said Milwaukee Public Museum President and CEO Dr. Ellen Censky Thursday afternoon during a media tour of the under-construction Nature & Culture Museum of Wisconsin. In case you missed it, the Milwaukee Public Museum will close on January 3, 2027. Then, sometime in the first quarter of 2027, the Nature & Culture Museum of Wisconsin will open at 1310 N. 6th St. and officially take MPM’s place.

Thursday’s tour was the final media tour before NCMW’s 2027 opening. Though limited to the exterior and the interior of the ground floor only, it provided a glimpse of some signature elements: the relocated Algonkian Indian and Whistling Swan sculpture, the five-story light well, the staircase, and the two-story planetarium.
