Halloween is in the rearview mirror, but that doesn’t mean “spooky season” has to immediately change to “Mariah Carey season.” So if you’re still in the mood for some good autumnal vibes, might we suggest heading to Lynden Sculpture Garden in River Hills and checking out Zack Pieper’s “Ghost Garden” installation? It’s on display through November 22.

If “Ghost Garden” seems hauntingly familiar, there’s a reason for that. Pieper, a Milwaukee writer/musician/poet/artist, has rung in nine previous Halloween seasons with his delightful “Ghost-Its” mosaics. Armed with thousands of post-it notes and a lot of patience, Pieper adorns each note with a unique, hand-drawn ghost(s), and then plasters his ghastly creations in the windows of Milwaukee businesses and/or art galleries. In 2021, Pieper covered the windows of Real Tinsel Gallery on Historic Mitchell Street. In 2022, his office-friendly fiends landed on the front windows of Bay View book/graphic novel haven Lion’s Tooth.

2022

The Lynden ghosts made their debut earlier this month, but, again, they’re on display through November 22. They’re viewable every day except Thursdays, from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m.

“GHOST GARDEN will be at its spookiest as the sun goes down and the site-specific installation is illuminated by light within the house,” Lynden adds. With things getting dark at around 4 p.m. these days, that shouldn’t be a problem.
