Whatever happened to them? Everybody in the city gushed over them and they disappeared and nobody said anything.
Jay Anderson moved to New Orleans. Was Q the Sun involved in that too? He’s around, doing music under his given name.
@lowg I don't think Jay was really a member.
Hey Matt and Tyler, whatever happened to Lex, WebsterX and Lorde Fredee?
@john_bv Lex dropped off the radar following some sexual assault accusations in 2021 (a story I was working on fell apart for numerous reasons). WX dropped off the radar (for a while) following a JS story on his abuse of his then-girlfriend in 2022. LF simply dropped off the radar, though it appears from his IG that he recently got out of prison.
@matt-wild Did it "fall apart" because you feared a lawsuit? Seems like it since you won't use their names here? Time for a "where are they now" story that also explains whatever happened to ggoolldd!
@john_bv Ha, a "Where are they now?" feature for a lot of bands/groups—including New Age Narcissism and GGOOLLDD—is an interesting idea. Time to do some digging!
@matt-wild I see what you did there by not answering my question. After hyping them up like all the other outlets did at the time, you guys do have an obligation to acknowledge that you promoted a bunch of creeps. That "Milwaukee famous" power given to them by JS, you, 88.9 etc is what gave them the ability to be as gross as they (nearly all!) were.
@matt-wild no response? I mean, you had a hand in Samer's book, you must realize MR's role in helping crown people "Milwaukee Famous" (not so much now, but you def had that power pre-covid). All politics are local - if you can't speak the truth in your own life or admit mistakes, please consider sparing us your political commentary in the future. My intention here isn't to embarrass you or MR, but come on guys...
@john_bv It's hard to respond over the noise of all this axe grinding, but in the spirit of old-school discussion on an old-school message board, I'll try to respond honestly and sans snark. (Sorry, I couldn't resist the axe-grinding thing.)
While I think this site's ability to bestow "Milwaukee famous" power on anyone is VASTLY overrated (pre- and post-COVID), I suppose it does play a part. I also suppose that since I do feel a tinge of pride when I help elevate good people, I must feel guilty when I help elevate people who turn out to be bad. And I do.
In this case, I helped elevate a group of people, and when I learned that many of them were creeps, I stopped. I pursued an article, but it fell apart. (Not because of "fear of a lawsuit," but for journalistic reasons not suitable for public discussion.) Could I have tried harder? I suppose I could have. And for that, I failed, and I readily own up to it. I've declined several "comeback" articles in the years since, for what it's worth.
It's strange. I've always said that Milwaukee's modest size is what makes a site like this possible. A smaller city? Probably not enough going on. A bigger one? Too MUCH going on. But maybe size doesn't matter. Maybe the quality and intention of the work is what determines its power. A no-brainer, I suppose, but easy to forget in the shuffle. (For me, at least.)
I appreciate your questions and I appreciate the discussion. They're both good reminders that what we do here can make a difference—for good or ill.
