Turner Hall is much more than Turner Hall Ballroom. The historic landmark (1040 Vel R. Phillips Ave.) is a community center, a social justice hub, and even a gym. And now, the nonprofit civic group that operates the building, the Milwaukee Turners, is looking to the community for help with some much-needed repairs. (The Ballroom is operated separately by the Pabst Theater Group.)
“You love what we do, you love where we do it. Help make Turner Hall stronger for the future!” reads a fundraising site. “The Milwaukee Turners are facing urgent costs to replace our broken ADA lift and address time-sensitive masonry repairs on the facade and North side of historic Turner Hall.”
The estimated total cost of the repairs is $70,000—$40,000 for the ADA lift, $30,000 for the masonry repairs.

The ADA lift will help people who need assistance moving from the north parking lot entrance to the main meeting and restaurant floor to attend our forums, recovery programs, community activities and more. (The regular elevator is still in operation; this is a separate lift on the North side of the building). Phase I masonry work will address some of the critical structural problems that have occurred over the past 50 years, resulting in cracks in our facade and shifting keystones.
