Bay View brewery Supermoon Beer Company, 3145 S. Howell Ave., has closed its taproom. Owners Rob and Maria Brennan announced the immediate closure via social media on Monday. They also indicated that the Supermoon company will stay in business, but shift its focus to distribution.

“It’s with profound bittersweetness to report that our Taproom is now closed,” reads the announcement. “Please note that Supermoon is still very much in business, but things are going to look a little different going forward as we center our focus on market distribution.”

Supermoon began brewing out of its Howell Avenue location in 2019. The 120-year-old building was formerly a general store, and also served as the Brennans’ home. The taproom didn’t open until 2022, however, thanks to the COVID-19 pandemic.

“As our first barrels of mixed culture beer matured and became ready in 2020, we all woke up one day to a fever dream reality as a global pandemic upended nearly every aspect of life around the world, just in time to open our business,” the announcement continues. “And yet, you still showed up. Masked, generously and enthusiastically buying our beer from under a plexiglass screen. It was because of you that Supermoon got to exist at all, against the odds. Thank you.”

In a 2024 “Meet A Brewer” article, Rob told us: “Our scale is a pretty modest scale goal compared to what most people tend to do. Our philosophy or ethos is we’re vehemently trying to not take over the world. Our focus is here and giving people the best beer we possibly can—beer that we feel good asking for their money for.”
