Tonight, at a public event beginning at 7 p.m., Milwaukee’s incomparable Landmark Lanes will celebrate its 90th (!) anniversary. The East Side underground bar/bar/bar/bowling alley/arcade/venue is a storied establishment and an everything-to-everyone neighborhood treasure—talk to most anyone 21 and over and they’re sure to have a story about the Landmark.
And what better way to celebrate the Landmark’s 90th than by declaring today Landmark Lanes Day? Answer: there is no better way, so Mayor Tom Barrett has done exactly that. Here’s the proclamation:
The City of Milwaukee proudly joins dedicated staff, patrons and community members in celebrating the 90th Anniversary of Landmark Lane on Wednesday, May 17, 2017; and,
WHEREAS, Landmark Lanes was established in 1927 as Bensinger’s Recreation and has become an iconic, historic and beloved bowling alley and arcade to many in the City of Milwaukee; and,
WHEREAS, Landmark Lanes has grown into a thriving business, nicknamed “Underground City” for its 24,000 square feet of recreation, providing visitors with a welcoming and family-friendly recreational environment; and,
WHEREAS, Landmark Lanes serves as one of Milwaukee’s entertainment destinations, boasting three bars, 16 bowling lanes, more than 35 arcade and pinball machines, 10 pool tables, competitive darts and a stage that highlights Milwaukee’s local music scene; and,
WHEREAS, The City of Milwaukee commends Landmark Lanes on 90 years of dedicated service and leadership, recognizes its outstanding contributions to the community and wishes it many more years of success;
NOW, THEREFORE, I, TOM BARRETT, Mayor of the City of Milwaukee, do hereby proclaim Wednesday, May 17, 2017, to be LANDMARK LANES DAY throughout the City of Milwaukee.
TOM BARRETT
Mayor
