Football has a “next man up” mentality. It’s a long, arduous season, so when someone is lost to injury, suspension, or any other personal matters that take them off the field, another player is waiting to take their place in the lineup and do their part to get the job done.

When it comes to the Milwaukee Record Halftime Show series, we operate with a similar mindset. If an act we booked to be part of the football-focused series can no longer take the field, er, the Cactus Club stage, we bring someone else in to do the job. With that in mind, we have an important announcement to make regarding the Saturday, December 20 game.

Due to unknown circumstances (but probably a direct result of the NFL taking forever to decide on the date and kickoff time for Green Bay’s game on Week 16 in order to maximize ratings), Chapped Lips had to cancel their scheduled Halftime Show performance. Instead of trying to cobble together a full Cactus Club concert to take place before and/or after the game on short notice, we figured it might be fun to try something a little bit different in this lucrative night game slot: comedy!

Yes, we called on Milwaukee comedian AJ Grill to treat the Cactus Club crowd to a tight 15-minute set between the second and third quarters of the Packers-Bears game. If you’re unfamiliar, Grill is an ever-busy touring stand up comic who has opened for the likes of Shane Gillis, Bobcat Goldthwait, Dana Gould, Michael Che, Sam Tallent, and Gareth Reynolds. In late 2022, he released his hilarious and all-around wonderful debut special, I’ll Quit When I’m 30.

Kickoff is at 7:20 p.m. As always, there’s no cover to attend the Milwaukee Record Halftime Show, though tips for performers are always appreciated. During all Packers games, Cactus Club offers specials on Miller High Life, Hamm’s, and WYNK. There are also touchdown shots—both regular and non-alcoholic—and you can enjoy free pizza courtesy of Transfer Pizzeria Café (while supplies last). There’s also a DJ that plays music during commercial breaks.

We hope to see you at Cactus Club on December 20. And while you’re at it, join us during this Sunday’s game for a Casa duBois Packers vintage pop-up market and a halftime performance by dak duBois.
