Just one year after leaving its longtime Downer Avenue location and setting up shop in the former Stubby’s Gastrogrub at 2060 N. Humboldt Blvd., Pizza Man has abruptly closed the latter location. The restaurant made the announcement on social media Monday afternoon:
Dear Valued Guests,
It is with a heavy heart that we announce the permanent closure of our restaurant on Humboldt Blvd. We have had the pleasure of serving you for the past year, and we are grateful for your patronage and support.
We have made this difficult decision after careful consideration and deliberation. In the meantime, please visit us at our Wauwatosa location at 11500 W Burleigh Street, Wauwatosa, 53222. As always, your Gift Cards will be accepted at our Wauwatosa location as well as any future locations.
We would like to thank our dedicated staff for their hard work and commitment over the year. Be assured that we will do everything we can to make this transition as caring as possible for our staff.
We will always cherish the memories we have made together. Thank you for being a part of our journey.

As noted, Pizza Man’s Wauwatosa location remains open. And yeah, there’s that tease about “future locations,” too.
Say the words “Pizza Man” while standing anywhere in Milwaukee County and you’ll likely get an opinion. Pizza Man is great! Pizza Man used to be great! Pizza Man hasn’t been the same since the original North Avenue location burned down/was torched in 2010! There’s a Pizza Man in Tosa? Etcetera. A Milwaukee institution since 1970, Pizza Man has, in recent years, fallen into “your mileage may vary” ambivalence.
In April 2023, a month after leaving its 10-year home on Downer Avenue, Pizza Man reopened on Humboldt. And for what it’s worth (not enough, apparently), we liked it! R.I.P. Milwaukee Pizza Man.
