Since 2019, Farmhouse Paint Bar & Hall (4511 S. 6th St., 414-404-5858) has played host to Frida Fest MKE. The event serves as “an annual celebration of the Mexican artist Frida Kahlo,” whose surrealist, feminist, and socially-centered works have inspired artists for decades. According to organizers, Frida Fest is also a vehicle to help promote the work of artists in the Milwaukee region.

“Our festival aims to promote artists in South Eastern Wisconsin by using the platform of the icon Frida Kahlo in a two-day interactive cultural art festival with local vendors, live music, educational pieces, interactive art exhibits, and food trucks!”

It’s truly one of the more unique summertime happenings here in the “City Of Festivals,” and it’s coming back for another go-round in 2024. The 5th annual Frida Fest MKE will return to Farmhouse Paint Bar & Hall for two days of fun spread between Saturday, July 13 and Sunday, July 14.

This year’s installment will feature art installations, photo ops, a marketplace with more than 35 vendors and artists, food trucks (including on-site favorite Chucho’s Red Tacos), live music performances, a Frida Look-Alike Contest (with both child and adult categories) for a cash prize, a Poetry Slam with a cash prize, and much more.

As always, Frida Fest is FREE to attend, though there’s a limited number of all-inclusive painting classes that are available for purchase. For more information on this year’s Frida Fest, go to Farmhouse’s website or the Frida Fest MKE 2024 Facebook event.
