Destiny’s Child Member and Author Michelle Williams to Open Milwaukee Film’s Cultures & Communities Festival
Grammy award winner to headline C&C Fest with “Getting Real about Depression.”
MILWAUKEE – Monday, Aug. 2, 2021 – Destiny’s Child member, actress, entrepreneur, and author Michelle Williams will open Milwaukee Film’s upcoming Cultures & Communities Festival (C&C Fest), presented by the Froedtert & the Medical College of Wisconsin regional health network, with “Getting Real about Depression,” a candid conversation about mental and emotional health, on Wednesday, Sept. 8, at 6:30 p.m. at the local Wilson Theater, the nonprofit announced on Monday.
An advocate for mental health and female empowerment, Williams’ recently published memoir “Checking In: How Getting Real about Depression Saved My Life—and Can Save Yours” sheds an uplifting light and offers a behind the scenes look at her journey with depression, along with the importance of faith, family, friends, and prioritizing mental health.
From Midwestern girl, to touring across the globe with one of the biggest musical groups of all time, to coping with bouts of depression, Williams brings with her a passion for helping others live their best lives while providing people with key tips and lessons to put them on their own path towards personal and professional success.
C&C Fest (Sept. 6-12), formerly the Minority Health Film Festival, is a hybrid event focused on promoting individual and communal wellness that will feature 40+ films, workshops, panels, and Q&As both in-person at event venues around the city and on Milwaukee Film’s virtual platform.
Entering its third year with Froedtert & the Medical College of Wisconsin health network, this one-of-a-kind Festival is guided by principles of cultural equity, ensuring representation in festival programming and outreach for communities that have been historically underrepresented based on race/ethnicity, age, disability, sexual orientation, gender and gender identity, socioeconomic status, and citizenship status.
