With the first day of the year comes a first-day-of-the-year tradition in Milwaukee: jumping into the frigid waters of Lake Michigan. Yes, the 2024 Polar Bear Plunge took place on Monday. Hundreds of hearty souls braved the cold weather (and colder water) to ring in the new year at Bradford Beach. And Milwaukee weather guru Bert Lauderdale was there, issuing a special #BertAlert for ye olde Milwaukee Record.

Who’s Bert Lauderdale? Well, in addition to being a general guy about town, “Bert” (his real name is a mystery…) has been keeping tabs on local weather for a number of years now. He’s great! You can follow him on Instagram, YouTube, and X! And in 2024, you can expect to see him doing more stuff with Milwaukee Record! “Weather” you like it or not!
