Since 2011, Bay View Gallery Night has organized “Milwaukee’s largest annual celebration of art, local business, music, and community.” One Friday night each spring, the massive neighborhood-wide event brings together talented area artists and musicians, along with an eclectic mix of Milwaukee bars, restaurants and retailers for a large-scale happening that has quickly become a part of the Bay View tradition.

The 15th annual spring edition of Bay View Gallery Night is scheduled to take place Friday, May 29. If you’re somehow still on the fence about attending, here are some reasons we think you need to make a point to stop at some of the 60-plus participating sites during this year’s Bay View Gallery Night festivities.

It’s free!
Yes, you read that right. Free! Of course, you’ll need to pay for any art you wish to purchase, as well as food and drinks at most establishments, but beyond that, Bay View Gallery Night is a free means of exploring local businesses you may not otherwise get to visit often, socializing with others in the neighborhood, checking out a wide range of work from area artists, and maybe stumbling into some free entertainment in the process.

Bay View Jazz Fest (and other live music)
On the subject of free entertainment taking place during Bay View Gallery Night, the artsy undertaking has partnered with Bay View Jazz Fest in 10 of its previous iterations. That merger of visual art and jazz will continue this Friday, as six neighborhood bars, distilleries, breweries, galleries, parks, and cider purveyors will host a total of 14 acts. You can see the full 2026 Bay View Jazz Fest lineup here.

In addition to the Bay View Jazz Fest-related happenings, this spring’s BVGN will also have other musical offerings. For example, Jalisco’s Cantina will have a mariachi band performing on-site in its Lincoln Warehouse space. Hi Score and Tlalok Rodriguez Quartet will play a Gallery Night-affiliated outdoor market on Potter Ave. (more on that later). Fundamentals and friends will embark on a five-hour jam at Voyageur Book Shop, and if you want to get in on the musical fun, Roxie Beane will be hosting karaoke at The Backyard. That’s just a sampling of what you’ll be able to hear.

Milwaukee Makers Market
Though Milwaukee Makers Market is a well-established and wildly popular artistic entity in its own right, it’ll be flexing format a bit and adding a Bay View pop-up market to its schedule on May 29 to coincide with Gallery Night. Go to Zillman Park from 5-10 p.m. and browse items from more than 15 area artists, crafters, jewelers, clothing retailers, and more. It’s free!

Other events within BVGN
Milwaukee Makers Market isn’t the only multi-artist event that’s joining forces with Bay View Gallery Night. Following a year off, Ink Curds will bring more than 20 printmakers from all over the Midwest to The Magnet Factory from 5-9 p.m. on May 29. Meanwhile, Scout Gallery will showcase leafy works from a variety of visual mediums in its “Plant Sale” exhibition. And as referenced earlier, a block of Potter Avenue outside of Rushmor Records, Beth Eaton Pottery, and Cozy Collective will be closed to traffic in order to make room for an outdoor market featuring over 20 artists and live music from 5-10 p.m. this Friday.

Food and drinks with a side of art
While visual and musical arts are—and absolutely should be—the primary focal points of this ambitious neighborhood undertaking, food and drinks share secondary billing. Most nights, many of the participating locations are Bay View bars, breweries, restaurants, distilleries, cafes, and other haunts were one can enjoy a bite and/or a beverage with a side of art. Some spots even offer up complementary snacks and a few might even have a cooler nearby with something for visitors to sip on.

It’s the best way to see and stock up on local art
Whether you’re supporting an area artist you know, propping up a local business you like, or simply looking to bolster your personal art collection by exploring dozens of neighborhood establishments-turned-temporary galleries in a single evening to see what sparks joy, you won’t want to miss this spring’s edition of Bay View Gallery Night. We hope to see you out and about on Friday, May 29.
