Planned Parenthood of Wisconsin Expands Reproductive Health Care Services for Men
Vasectomy services will launch at the Water Street Health Center on February 16
Milwaukee—February 13—Planned Parenthood of Wisconsin (PPWI) is launching safe, affordable, no-scalpel vasectomy services in partnership with urologists from the Medical College of Wisconsin (MCW) starting February 16, 2023. Patients can now book their appointments for the procedure, which will be provided at the PPWI Water Street Health Center located at 435 S. Water Street in Milwaukee. Vasectomy is the latest addition of services at PPWI, and the first of many new service rollouts for the organization in 2023 to help meet the growing health care needs in the communities they serve.
“Now more than ever, it is important to expand access to birth control options for men who are increasingly inquiring about and getting vasectomies after the U.S Supreme Court ruling overturning Roe,” said Tanya Atkinson, President and CEO of Planned Parenthood of Wisconsin. “Providing this extremely effective form of birth control is aligned with our mission and commitment to providing family planning and reproductive health care to all who need us, no matter what.”
Patients interested in learning more about vasectomy services at PPWI can book a consultation by calling 1.844.493.1052. The procedure is covered by many commercial insurance providers and Medicaid. Self-pay options are also available. PPWI also provides men and people assigned male at birth with other services including STD testing and treatment, and HIV testing and education.
According to Innerbody Research, searches on the internet for “where can I get a vasectomy” increased by 850% in the days after the Dobbs decision. Now, patients will have another option to access vasectomy services in the local area. Two MCW urologists will work with the patient services team at the PPWI Water Street location to provide vasectomy services.
“Patients seeking vasectomy services may not regularly visit a primary care physician – let alone a urologist – and, thus, may have difficulty accessing this type of care. Planned Parenthood has long been a resource in the community when it comes to contraceptive care. We’re proud to partner with them to increase access to this procedure for local patients seeking reproductive care,” said Dr. Jay Sandlow, Professor and Interim Chair of the Department of Urology at the Medical College of Wisconsin.
