How does the old saying go? “No one in the world ever gets what they want, and that is beautiful”? Yeah, that’s it. Who said that again? Oh yeah, it was They Might Be Giants! And why are we bringing up the ever-delightful, fantastic-as-always alt/geek-rock duo of John Flansburgh and John Linnell? Because they’re coming to Milwaukee’s Pabst Theater for a two-night engagement, Friday, June 21; and Saturday, June 22! Turns out you can get what you want, and that, too, is beautiful!

Tickets for each 8 p.m. show (doors open at 6:30 p.m.) are between $35.50 and $45.50. They go on sale Friday, February 16 at 11 a.m.

Oh, and just because we’re thrilled to type this: the shows are being presented by Milwaukee Record!

So here’s the deal: TMBG’s so-called “Big Show Tour”—of which the Milwaukee shows are a part of—will feature “two very different shows” of “two ‘Evening with’ performances.” There will be an “eight-piece band, three horns, two sets, and zero openers.” Also, this: “Starts early. Gets loud.”

Here’s more, from a press release:

They Might Be Giants plan to take full advantage of this tour’s two-night stands. They will perform two very different shows, not only to keep the song selection and high-wire musical improvisations ever-changing but also to encourage return audiences looking for deep cuts and hard left turns. With sets featuring the earliest days of Dial-A-Song through their platinum album Flood, and all the way to their Grammy-nominated album BOOK; each night of this multi-city run will be its own celebration of the band’s singular songbook. Expect a spontaneous, sprawling, enthralling musical event unlike any other, every single night.

And here’s a fun (?) fact: the last time TMBG came through Milwaukee was in March 2020, one week before the initial COVID-19 shutdowns.

Anyway, the engagements are booked through the end of the world, so we’ll meet at the end of the tour. And They Might Be Giants will hopefully/likely tour again. Yes, they’ll hopefully/likely tour again.
