Ever since forming back in 2017 on account of its members’ shared love of outlaw country and classic rock, Wire & Nail has been a band that’s synonymous with summertime in Milwaukee. Not only do they craft timeless tunes that just beg to be played loud while driving around town with your windows down on a warm day, you’re also likely to hear Wire & Nail performing at a wide array of local celebrations, block parties, weekly music series, and other area happenings once Milwaukee’s festival season rolls around.

As much of a mark as the outfit has made on the city’s collective summer soundtrack in recent years, you might be shocked to learn the band hasn’t actually released any new music since putting out its Northwoods Rambler EP way back in December 2019. That’s more than four years, for those of you keeping score at home. Well, with another summer—and more Wire & Nail live outings—on the horizon, the band is now addressing that lengthy gap between releases.

On Friday, May 3, the Cream City classic rock/country project—which added a few new members to the mix since 2019—will be putting out a brand new EP and will celebrate the occasion with a release show at The Cooperage. Prior to this weekend’s show, Wire & Nail decided to get ready by letting listeners hear the forthcoming EP’s first single.

Recorded with Van Isaacson at Milwaukee’s Lovegrove Studios, “Devil In Angel Wings” continues Wire & Nail’s trend of fun, rowdy, and all-around excellent output, as singer Phil Bregant’s lyrics about the personal risks and rewards of a love interest are backed with jangling keyboard accompaniment, grand guitar solos, and a larger-than-life rhythm section. It’s the Wire & Nail you know and appreciate, just a little bigger, bolder, and newer than you’re used to hearing.

You can see Wire & Nail performing “Devil In Angel Wings” (along with other new songs and old favorites) live at The Cooperage on Friday, May 3. The $10 show—which the band is calling a “10 Buck Banger”—begins at 7 p.m. and will also feature opening support from Modern Joey and Bomber And Red. As you shine up your boots in preparation for Friday’s show, you can listen to Wire & Nail’s first single in more than four years right now.
