One of the highlights of Milwaukee’s Halloween season was WMSE’s “Radio Dead Time.” The free show and costume/dance party at Anodyne on Bruce featured music from Seances, El Sebas, and Red Quean. It was a blast. You can watch the whole thing here:
One of the highlights of that highlight was Red Quean. The synth-rock/dance group of Lauryl Sulfate, Isabella Gargiulo, Ashley Altadonna, Mark Zbikowski, and Mary Benetti kicked things off perfectly, delivering an irresistible set of groovy and gloomy tunes. Oh, and they looked incredible doing it:

And one of the highlights of that highlight was new Red Quean song “Sugar & Violence.” The follow-up to February’s debut single “Red Queen,” the track finds the band in a decidedly goth-y mood. “I have found nothing here but sugar and violence,” Sulfate sings. “That’s how I know what hunger is.” It’s great. Listen to it here:
Oh, and does the line “She walks on padded feet across my aching chest” suggest the song is about a cat? Let’s just say it does.
