Milwaukee Record Recommended Events: July 15-21, 2024 Milwaukee Record Staff July 15, 2024 Milwaukee is chock full of things to do, but only a handful of Milwaukee events are worthy of the lofty honor of “Record Recommended” (patent pending). Here are our recommendations—brought to you by Lilliput Records—for July 15-21, 2024. MONDAY, JULY 15 Musical Mondays: Brian Lynch & The Spheres Of Influence @ Lake Park Summer Stage Milwaukee summers are stuffed with outdoor events both big and small. Falling somewhere in the middle are two Lake Park music series: Musical Mondays and Wonderful Wednesdays. The complimentary (and free!) series from Lake Park Friends—set on the park’s Summer Stage, near the playground—may seem small, but they pack a musical punch. That’s especially true for this year’s Musical Mondays lineup. “Musical Mondays is proud to offer the community a lineup this summer as musically and geographically diverse as anything we’ve ever done,” says series presenter Jeff Bentoff. “It’ll be a summer of music in the park you won’t forget.” TUESDAY, JULY 16 Chill On The Hill: Joseph Huber + Violet Wilder @ Humboldt Park For nearly two decades, Bay View Neighborhood Association’s Chill On The Hill has brought music to Humboldt Park’s band chalet every Tuesday between June and August. And hey! It’s July! Which means Chill On The Hill is in full swing! Drop by as Joseph Huber and Violet Wilder continue Chill’s 19th season in style. Music begins at 6:30 p.m.—and, as always, “IF IT MAKES A CLOUD IT’S NOT ALLOWED.” Film Fatale: Cruising + Scorpio Rising @ Amorphic Beer WEDNESDAY, JULY 17 Thirty Seconds To Mars + Jagwar Twin @ The Rave/Eagles Ballroom “Climbing from the Empire State Building in New York City, Oscar winning actor Jared Leto announced Thirty Seconds to Mars’ monumental Seasons 2024 World Tour—an extensive run across Latin America, Europe, North America, Australia and New Zealand. This will be the band’s first headline tour in over five years. Leto, the band’s frontman, accomplished a historic feat as he completed the first ever climb of the Empire State Building. Having always been fascinated with the incredible landmark since he was a child, he said ‘The building is a testament of all the things that can be done in the world if we put our minds to it, which is largely the inspiration behind our most recent album, It’s The End Of The World But It’s A Beautiful Day.'” Rosali + David Nance And Mowed Sound @ X-Ray Arcade Washington Park Wednesdays: King Courteen + Emmitt James @ Washington Park Bandshell Wonderful Wednesdays: The Last Bees @ Lake Park Summer Stage Hubbard Park Summer Sounds: Five Card Studs @ Hubbard Park THURSDAY, JULY 18 Chinese Telephones + Freezing Hands, Soup Moat, No Motel @ Linneman’s Riverwest Inn Milwaukee punk outfit Chinese Telephones formed way back in 2004, and released a self-titled full-length in 2007. (A 2008 record called Democracy rounded up various early singles and splits.) And, well, that was it for recorded output—until 2023. Yep, Chinese Telephones—a.k.a. Justin Telephone on lead vocals and rhythm guitar, Daniel James on lead and rhythm guitar, Andy Junk on shirtless bass and backing vocals, and Logan Stang on drums—put out the four-track Outta My Hands back in November. Opener “Radianna” is an instantly winning callback to the Chi-Tels sound of yesteryear, while “Come And See Me” and “Tamping Down My Soul” take things in a decidedly more power-pop direction. Mom Rock + Daisychain, Fellow Kinsman, The Thing With Feathers @ Cactus Club Linus + Mold, Overhand, Okay Omen @ X-Ray Arcade Third Space Presents: Dak DuBois @ Third Space Brewing FRIDAY, JULY 19 ‘Twin Peaks’: On Air 3 @ X-Ray Arcade “It is happening again AGAIN…TV GRIME is back at X-Ray Arcade to present even more episodes of Twin Peaks‘ groundbreaking first season—once again as originally broadcast with commercial breaks and interstitials. Watch the mystery unfold as if for the first time and have your mind blown all over again. As always, come early and stay late for specially curated pre- and post-show exhibitions of rare and odd Lynch and Peaks content! Since it’s the weekend, we’ll be running longer and later than usual! Give yourself a gift and join us once again on Friday, July 19th at the one and only X-Ray Arcade!” Sad Summer Festival: Mayday Parade + The Maine, The Wonder Years, We The Kings, Real Friends, Knuckle Puck, The Summer Set, Daisy Grenade, Like Roses @ The Rave/Eagles Ballroom Milwaukee Gallery Night & Day @ various locations (also July 20) The Neckbones + Spidora, Toadskin @ Last Rites Chapped Lips + North Warren, The Kilroys, Oh Well OK @ Linneman’s Riverwest Inn Jon Dore @ The Laughing Tap (also July 20) Music On The Beerline: Smoke N Mirrors + Urban Empress And The Urbanites @ Beerline Plaza Friday Night Retro Dance Party: DJ Don Black @ Mad Planet SATURDAY, JULY 20 Brady Street Festival @ Brady Street Way back in February, we urged you to keep Saturday, July 20 open for one of Milwaukee’s largest, longest-running, and all-around best summer block parties, Brady Street Festival.
