It’s been a banner week for Milwaukee event announcements. On top of news that American Football is coming to Turner Hall in August and our Meatless Raffle will be returning to Cactus Club next month is another compelling show we just learned about. If you, too, were in the dark about this, allow us to be the bearer of good news: Kyle Gass is coming to Milwaukee on Saturday, March 28 to play an intimate outing at Shank Hall.
If you’re reading this article, you’re likely aware that Gass is an accomplished musician, actor, comedian, and one half of the incomparable Tenacious D (which has been on an extended hiatus after…eh, just read about it yourself if you want to). In addition to his work with Tenacious D, the low-key guitar virtuoso keeps busy with projects like Trainwreck, his Kyle Gass Band, Guitarings, and other solo efforts. Next month, Gass will hit the road to play a small run of shows in support of Kyle Gass Band’s Live In Palmdale album that was released January 23.
The Saturday, March 28 show will feature Mt. Air from Columbus, Ohio as both the opener and Gass’ backing band. John Konesky will also present to “lend a musical hand” to Gass. According to the event description on Shank Hall’s website, the concert will be “a collection of songs from the past catalog, the new releases, and anything else that feels like it might melt your face off.” The description also says “the whole gang”—which we can safely assume includes Gass—will be sticking around to meet fans after the show.
Tickets to this all ages affair are on sale now. The concert begins at 8 p.m. and costs $30 in advance ($35.78 after fees). If you want to see comedy rock royalty up close and personal, make plans to head to Shank Hall on March 28. In the meantime, enjoy Gass’ scene from the 2001 film Saving Silverman that we still quote with regularity.
