Every Wednesday at noon, Ryan Schleicher, Evan Rytlewski, and Matt Wild take to the WMSE airwaves to discuss all things Milwaukee. This half-hour fun-fest is called The Disclaimer, so named because none of the oft-ridiculous views expressed on the show necessarily reflect the views of the hosts’ employers. Milwaukee music, Milwaukee art, Milwaukee events, and D.I.Y. lawn care tips are frequently discussed—and rarely agreed upon. The Disclaimer: Talk radio for the sane.
In a terrific piece for the Shepherd Express, Evan Rytlewski asks an interesting question: “What’s Driving the Surge in Milwaukee City Pride?” Milwaukeeans, he notes, are suddenly really, really in love with their city, sporting Milwaukee-themed T-shirts, flying Milwaukee-themed flags, and constantly nattering on about everything Milwaukee. But is this newfound city pride unique to Milwaukee? Can similar movements be found elsewhere? Isn’t it weird that there’s a whole new generation of Milwaukeeans who don’t think the city is, well, kind of a dump? Ryan, Evan, and Matt gleefully delve into these questions and more. Evan shares insights from other city cheerleaders throughout the country, Ryan talks about never giving up on beer and brats, and Matt goes off on a weird serial killer tangent that seemed to make sense at the time.
