When we first met Beauty Steps back in February, the Milwaukee dream-pop/R&B outfit was extolling the virtues of “Peaches.” Group members D’Amato and Robert Weiss—plus a murderers’ row of guest musicians—turned in a fantastically sublime and sexy song full of crooning vocals, glistening synths, and psychedelic funfetti sprinkles. Now, D’Amato and Weiss are back with a song about…sharing? Yep, the song is called “My Girlfriend’s Girlfriend,” and it’s another winner.
“I’ve never really been good at sharing,” D’Amato confesses in the soulful, smooth-as-silk song. “I tend to get tricky with my territory.” But learning to concede some of that relationship territory the song’s narrator must. “I kiss them both before I leave,” D’Amato sings before the track drifts off into a gorgeous wash of bleeps, bloops, and whistles.
Both “My Girlfriend’s Girlfriend” and “Peaches” will appear on Beauty Steps’ debut full-length album, Show Me Where. The aforementioned murderers’ row of guest musicians appearing on the record includes Caley Conway, Treccy Marquardt-Thomas, Liam O’Brien, Josh Evert, Bryan Rogers, Nick Lang, and Anthony Deutsch. Phew! Look for the nine-track celebration of peaches, throuples, and more this August.
