The last time we checked in with Milwaukee musician and Silver City Studios engineer Andrew Jambura, the former Sat. Nite Duets member was releasing his first solo song in nearly a decade, “Can U Spell God?” Fast forward a full year and Jambura is back with another godly jam, “My God.” It’s a timely anthem that grapples with our broken modern world, our lack of cohesion and solidarity, and the fact that the NFL changed the Pro Bowl into the Pro Bowl Games. Think David Berman meets Bruce Springsteen, but with more lines about the Pro Bowl. (They do a tug-of-war now for god’s sake. A tug-of-war!)
Here’s the video, featuring Jambura, co-conspirator Derek Marinello, and a hot tub:
“I got the idea for the song’s title after seeing a clip of Norm Macdonald telling a joke,” Jambura explains. “He either said ‘my god’ or ‘by god’ with an inflection that really resonated with me. In one succinct phrase, he summed up my feelings toward a lot of the insane things that occur every day in our world. And that’s what the song is to me: a reaction to many deeply fucked realities, from a lack of solidarity among the working class to the watering-down of America’s professional football all-star game.”
Back in December, Jambura also released this, which is incredible. Stay warm/organized, Milwaukee.
