It’s been a busy/confusing few years for the bar formerly known as the Eastsider, located at 1732 E. North Ave. The Eastsider closed in 2017 after an impressive run of nearly 20 years. After that, the space became an Italian wine bar called Baccanera Enoteca; it opened in April 2019 and closed in December 2020. After that, the bar became the Upper East Bar, owned and operated by Cord Harris. Soon after that (phew), Upper East closed but was taken over by a new six-member ownership group. That version of Upper East opened in the spring of 2023 and has since closed.

And now comes the space’s next bar, appropriately named, well, The Next Bar. A license application filed with the city (and taped to the front door) indicate that new owners, Alex Edwards and James Chappel, plan to revive the dormant East Side space. “We plan on operating a tavern,” reads the Next Bar application. “The space will serve as a space for adults to relax and enjoy a good time with like-minded people.” Sounds like a bar to us!

A proposed opening date for The Next Bar is listed as April 1. We’ve reached out to the owners for more information.
