At the tail end of a year that found him tying one on and forging a fast friendship with Amilinda co-owner/chef Gregory León for the first Shot For Shot With Chefs episode of 2019 and returning to The Cooperage to spend a few hours learning about (and getting thoroughly trashed with) The Tandem owner and chef Caitlin Cullen, hapless host Tyler Maas made his way back to the Harbor District bar to drink a shit-ton while getting to know two more respected members of Milwaukee’s culinary community.

This time around, Maas met Dan Jacobs and Dan Van Rite at a table well-stocked with Bofferding beer and Great Northern spirits. The dynamic duo owns and operates DanDan and its affiliated EsterEv venture, The Fauntleroy, and Ash. Over the course of about three hours (along with 12 shots and few beers each), the three guys engaged in extensive food talk, some sports banter, a little pull tab action, and no shortage of random asides. Along the way, the chefs discussed their passion in the kitchen, opened up about their friendship, and Jacobs talked about living with Kennedy’s disease, as well as the Dim Sum Give Some fundraiser that’s raised more than $70,000 to combat the illness.

Editor’s note: Jacobs felt it was important to clarify that “due to high alcohol consumption,” he mistakenly claimed the charity event has raised $90,000. Shot For Shot With Chefs was filmed and directed by Cheston Van Huss. Travis Whitty produced the opening sequence. Music featured in this episode comes courtesy of Midwest Death Rattle. The series is sponsored by Boone & Crockett, Bofferding, and Great Northern Distilling.
