Guided By Voices (!) will headline WMSE’s Backyard BBQ on August 24

Yes, you read the headline correctly: Legendary high-kicking Dayton, Ohio indie-rock band Guided By Voices will headline WMSE‘s 14th annual Backyard BBQ concert in Humboldt Park on Saturday, August 24. The free—we repeat, free—show will run from noon to 8 p.m., and will once again serve as a thank-you to listeners and supporters of the long-running free-form radio station, as well as a thank-you to the community at large.

Also, Guided By Voices will headline. YES.

But that’s not all! A bevy of local talent will play throughout the afternoon as well. The Exotics will kick things off, followed by Jinksie, NEWSKI, and Buffalo Nichols. And then GBV. And, fingers crossed, some classic Robert Pollard shit-talking.

Guided By Voices celebrated its 40th anniversary in 2023; meanwhile, WMSE recently celebrated its 43rd. Add those numbers up and that’s how many new albums GBV will likely release between now and August 24. We can’t wait!
