These days, video game movies are all the rage. However, the concept of releasing films that are either based on video games or that have a plot that’s largely about video games is far from a new phenomenon. In fact, it’s been happening for more than 40 years. Throughout this month, Times Cinema will celebrate these types of movies with its “Joystick June” film series.

Starting June 2 and running through June 29, the Milwaukee revival theater will screen a total of eight video game-related films that range from celebrated classics like Tron and The Last Starfighter, modern-ish mainstays like Scott Pilgrim Vs. The World and Tron Legacy (in 3D!), and cult favorites like eXistenZ and The Wizard. Tickets to each of these films cost $11 (except Tron Legacy in 3D, which runs $12) and can be purchased at Times Cinema’s website or its box office.
