“A legally blind used car salesman drunkenly purchases an ambulance online with his boss’s credit card.”

If you live outside Milwaukee, that sentence may sound like a Mad Lib tagline to a zany madcap comedy. If you live inside Milwaukee, however, that sentence will likely inspire this thought: “Oh, they made a documentary about TW Hansen?”

Yep, they made a documentary about TW Hansen! The new Milwaukee-brewed Now! More! Yes! follows the beloved local character as he navigates his life as a used car salesman, landlord, filmmaker, music video director, musician, dreamer, and all-around swell guy.

Last night, the trailer screened to a sold-out crowd at Quentin Tarantino’s Video Archives Cinema Club in the Vista Hollywood Theater. (It preceded a double-feature of the similarly Milwaukee-made Coven and Modus Operandi.) This March, the doc will make its official world premiere at the SXSW Film Festival. Today, the trailer for Now! More! Yes! is making its premiere on Milwaukee Record. Watch it now:

The 75-minute doc (shot over the course of three years) is directed by Max Hey. It’s produced by Chris James Thompson, Frankie Latina, and Andrew Swant. It features music from Direct Hit!, The Resurrectionists, Soul Low, and more.

We’ll let another Milwaukee legend who appears in the film, Mark Borchardt, give you more of a taste of what Now! More! Yes! is all about. We can’t wait! (We’ll keep you posted on any Milwaukee screenings.)

In “Now! More! Yes!” filmmaker Max Hey not only gives us a subject but a milieu—and not only a milieu but a place of heart as well. And that is a very good thing these days. This extraordinary documentary takes place in the great city of Milwaukee in all of its wintry desolation and on its vibrant summer streets. Tim (TW) Hansen, is the robust subject of this fascinating film. And TW loves cars. Always has and always will. But he’s also an artist: being an avant-garde musician and a driven filmmaker. Not only is his imagination boundless but so is his selfless service to others as well as to his rambunctious ideas—and that egalitarianism can often times lead to some cantankerous situations—a true heart that gets many arrows slung at it. Friends, colleagues and family weigh in from admiration to angst as Hansen goes full-throttle pursuing his extraordinary ambitions. And thanks to visionaries like Hey, and the seminal producer of this film, Frankie Latina (“Modus Operandi”), as well as producers Andrew Swant and Chris James Thompson, the viewer can lay claim to having witnessed a truly revelatory cinematic experience and a commendable warrior in Tim (TW) Hansen: the man, the myth and above all—the inspiration.

Oh, and here’s the TW Hansen-directed video for Platinum Boys’ “Downtown,” from 2015. Love those cars!
