Depending on which news sources you follow, Milwaukee is going through either a “renaissance” or a “reinvention.” However you want to define it, it’s safe to say that Milwaukee is currently building a lot of new and wonderful things! Here are some of them, brought to you by GTG Home Buyers!
• If you’ve been in the vicinity of 407 N. Water St. in downtown Milwaukee lately, you’ve probably noticed a lot of construction on that park across the street from the Milwaukee Public Market. You know, that park across the street from the Public Market and right next to the pickleball courts? Yeah, that one. What’s up with all that construction? What new and wonderful things are they building there? Surely it’s going to be another luxury apartment tower, right?
WRONG. Incredibly, the park is going to remain a park!
According to the Public Market, “the space is being transformed into a more sustainable and welcoming public area.” The new and improved space will include “permeable pavers, improved stormwater management, native landscaping and trees, and new seating areas for gathering.” The project is the work of Business Improvement District No. 2, via a Green Infrastructure Grant from the Milwaukee Metropolitan Sewerage District.

Those chunky bird sculptures, by the way, are the work of European-based art collective Cracking Art, and have been perched in the park since 2021. (Remember when they took over Lakeshore State Park?) Looks like they’re not going anywhere!

• Milwaukee Mayor Cavalier Johnson and a host of state and local officials will celebrate the groundbreaking of Port Milwaukee’s South Shore Cruise Dock on September 4. Located at 2320 S. Lincoln Memorial Dr., the dock will be Milwaukee’s third designated cruise ship dock, and will be the port-of-call for Seawaymax vessels. “This event will celebrate the start of construction of the South Shore Cruise Dock, as well as the positive economic and tourism impact this development will bring to the City of Milwaukee, the State of Milwaukee, and the Great Lakes region,” says a press release.
