Like Milwaukee itself, the Riverwest neighborhood is in a state of constant change. What was once new is now old (or gone), and what was once grand is now a gas station (or gone). And what better way to experience those changes in the comfort of your own home than with the help of some nifty photo sliders? That’s just what Milwaukee graphic designer (and Dirty Dancing frontman) Eric Schoen has done on his personal website. Using new photos of Riverwest perfectly aligned with historical photos of the neighborhood, Schoen allows viewers to slide back and forth between, say, the Fuel of today and its music store ancestor of 1962, or the corner of North and Humboldt of today and of the late 1800s. There are even some photos that contain “then and now” elements in a single frame (see above).
