In case you missed it last spring, America’s need for year-round pigskin entertainment has resulted in the creation of the United Football League. True to its name, the second-year league—also known as UFL—is the combination of four teams that were previously part of the XFL and four teams from the USFL, all of which were competing for players, personnel, and springtime football viewers since each league was revived recently.
The UFL’s 2025 season kicks off on Saturday, March 28 and will continue until a Champion is crowned on Sunday, June 14. If you’re looking to learn more about the league in general and figure out a rooting interest, allow Milwaukee Record to get you up to speed on all the former Green Bay Packers and Wisconsin Badgers currently on rosters of UFL teams. As it turns out, all but one franchise has at least one players with local affiliation. Here’s our guide!
Birmingham Stallions
Alex McGough — Wide Receiver
After leading the Stallions to the team’s second consecutive USFL championship in 2023 and earning USFL MVP honors in the process, then-quarterback Alex McGough was released from his Birmingham contract so he could sign with a team in the NFL. That team was none other than the Green Bay Packers, who put him on their practice squad heading into their 2023 season. Along the way, McGough made the transition to wide receiver. He remained on the Pack’s practice squad through the 2024 season before re-signing with the Stallions this winter (where he’ll apparently remain a receiver instead of a QB).
Amari Rodgers — Wide Receiver
The Packers selected Clemson wideout Amari Rodgers in the third round (85th overall) of the 2021 draft. Unfortunately, he couldn’t hold onto a roster spot in Titletown, as the team’s chosen returner fumbled a total of seven punts (of the 40 he returned over a 26-game span). Following an especially shaky game against Dallas in Week 10, Rodgers was released and replaced by Keisean Nixon, who turned into an All-Pro returner.
Jace Sternberger — Tight End
The Packers drafted Jace Sternberger in the third round (75th overall) in 2019. After two seasons abbreviated by injuries and a substance abuse-related suspension, Green Bay released the towering tight end prior to the 2021 season. He bounced around NFL practice squads since, but has found a home with the Stallions as an USFL All-Pro and the USFL’s leading receiver in 2023. During his time in Green Bay, Sternberger caught 12 balls for a total of 112 yards and a touchdown.
Cole Schneider — Guard
Schneider was signed by the Packers as an undrafted free agent in the spring of 2022, but was released before the beginning of the preseason. The Packers re-signed the offensive lineman in early August 2023, but released him again before the end of the very same month.
Faion Hicks — Cornerback
Following his collegiate career with the Badgers, cornerback Faion Hicks was selected by the Broncos in the 7th round in 2022. He was elevated for just two games in 2022, then bounced around the practice squads of the Saints and Browns until he appeared in two games with the Seahawks in 2024, where he managed two tackles. This month, Hicks signed a contract with the Stallions.
Rachad Wildgoose — Cornerback
Even though his Badgers career was cut short due to a season-ending injury in 2020, Rachad Wildgoose’s collegiate career at Wisconsin was still impressive enough to lead the Bills to draft him in the sixth round in 2021. He didn’t crack the 53-man roster there, but signed with the Jets later that season where he played in five games and had three tackles. In 2022, he signed with Washington, playing 15 games, amassing 16 total tackles in his one and only season there. Following a one-week training camp stint with the Lions last summer, Wildgoose made the move to the UFL in 2025 and will bolster a perennially stacked Stallions squad.
Houston Roughnecks
Olive Sagapolu — Defensive Tackle
The former Badgers nose tackle earned All-Big Ten Honorable Mention acknowledgement in 2017 before missing much of his senior season in 2018 with a torn ACL. He signed with the Packers in the summer of 2019, but was released at the end of the preseason.
Memphis Showboats
None.
Michigan Panthers
Danny Etling — Quarterback
When Jordan Love landed on the COVID-19 reserve list in late 2021, Danny Etling was signed to Green Bay’s practice squad, where he spent a total of six days. About six weeks later, he signed a future/reserve contract with the Packers and (following a nice training camp) eventually wound up on the Green Bay’s practice squad for the duration of the 2022 campaign. He was waived a few weeks prior to the 2023 season.
Nate McCrary — Running Back
Running back Nate McCrary spent three weeks with the Packers in August 2023, but was cut before the regular season.
Malik Turner — Wide Receiver
Illini wideout Malik Turner spent about three weeks with the Packers during training camp before the 2020 season. He was cut before Week 1.
Arlington Renegades
Sal Cannella — Tight End
Undrafted Auburn tight end Sid Cannella spent about four weeks with the Packers during the 2022 preseason before getting released.
Adrian Ealy — Offensive Tackle
Offensive lineman Adrian Ealy was on the Packers’ practice squad from December 29, 2021 through January 11, 2022. That’s it.
Chris Odom — Defensive End
Over a span of seven games with Green Bay in 2017, Chris Odom tallied six total tackles (three solo and three assisted).
DC Defenders
Kiondre Thomas — Cornerback
Cornerback Kiondre Thomas spent parts of the 2022 and 2023 season the Green Bay’s practice squad, but was elevated for one game along the way, managing a fumble recovery in that brief NFL cameo.
San Antonio Brahmas
Alizé Mack — Tight End
Mack was injured before the end of the 2022 preseason, then released after his brief stint on injured reserve was through.
Chuck Filiaga — Offensive Tackle
Undrafted Minnesota Gophers lineman Chuck Filiaga signed with the Packers prior to the 2023 season. His stint with Green Bay was short, however, as he was released near the end of the preseason. Despite his lack of NFL longevity, he has excelled as a member of the UFL’s San Antonio Brahmas.
Tariq Carpenter — Linebacker
Former Georgia Tech linebacker Tariq Carpenter was selected by the Packers in the 7th round in 2022. That season, he appeared in a total of 14 games and managed a total of eight tackles.
Kobe Jones — Linebacker
Ex-Mississippi State linebacker Kobe Jones has been on practice squads for six different NFL teams (including the Packers) since 2021, as well as stint with the Hamilton Tiger-Cats of the Canadian Football League. Green Bay put Jones on its regular season active roster for one game in 2022.
Henry Black — Safety
Safety Henry Black’s entire regular season/active roster NFL career to this point has taken place with the Packers (excluding signing with the Colts but not playing in late 2023) During parts of two seasons with Green Bay in 2020 and 2021, the D-back from Baylor played in 25 games where he managed 46 tackles (34 solo), two forced fumbles, one fumble recovery, two deflections, and an interception.
St. Louis Battlehawks
Manny Wilkins — Quarterback
Arizona State standout Manny Wilkins wasn’t drafted in 2019, but was quickly signed post-draft by the Packers. He spent the entirety of that season as Green Bay’s practice squad quarterback, but was released in April 2020 after the Packers drafted some guy named Jordan Love and there was suddenly an abundance of quarterbacks.
Jarveon Howard — Running Back
Last spring, undrafted Alcorn State rusher Jarveon Howard signed with the Packers. He was released partway through the preseason, but inked a deal with the Battlehawks late last year to join the team for its 2025 season.
