Every Wednesday at noon, Ryan Schleicher, Evan Rytlewski, and Matt Wild take to the WMSE airwaves to discuss all things Milwaukee. This half-hour fun-fest is called The Disclaimer, so named because none of the oft-ridiculous views expressed on the show necessarily reflect the views of the hosts’ employers. Milwaukee music, Milwaukee art, Milwaukee events, and D.I.Y. lawn care tips are frequently discussed—and rarely agreed upon. The Disclaimer: Talk radio for the sane.

The 50th edition of Summerfest has come and gone and, well, it was certainly a Summerfest. More than 831,000 people attended the Big Gig this year, an increase of 3.4% over last year. But was it any good? Ryan, Evan, and Matt use Evan’s Summerfest post-mortem to discuss hype, history, lineups, inclusiveness, and the puzzling corporate presence of Jimmy Kimmel. Next, the trio delve into a topic far less frivolous: the latest allegations made against R. Kelly. An extraordinary piece published on Buzzfeed this past Monday—by music critic, reporter, and longtime Kelly hound Jim DeRogatis—paints a disturbing picture of the singer as a cult leader, holding women against their wills and controlling all aspects of their lives. Evan discusses what DeRogatis gets right and where he strays, as well as the thorny topics of fan complicity, separating art from artists, Bill Cosby, PWR BTTM, and much more.
