This half-hour fun-fest is called The Disclaimer, so named because none of the oft-ridiculous views expressed on the show necessarily reflect the views of the hosts’ employers. Milwaukee music, Milwaukee art, Milwaukee events, and D.I.Y. lawn care tips are frequently discussed—and rarely agreed upon. The Disclaimer: talk radio for the sane.
Inspired by Mary Louise Schumacher’s recent survey of the “successes and missteps” of Milwaukee “placemaking” initiatives, Ryan, Evan, and Matt once again dive into the much-hyped and vaguely defined topic. Which place-inspired projects have been worthwhile? Which have been busts? Can something as grassroots and organic as the Riverwest 24 be considered placemaking? What’s the real story behind the swing park under the Holton Street Bridge? Can placemaking heal a divided city? Can we all promise to never use the word “placemaking” again?
