Experience the Bold Flavors of Myanmar at Bay View’s Newest Restaurant
MILWAUKEE: January 23, 2025 — Ni Burmese, a family-owned restaurant showcasing a variety of traditional dishes from Myanmar (formerly Burma), is set to open its doors to the public on Saturday, January 25th, in the retail space at KinetiK apartments located on 2160 S. Kinnickinnic Ave. This follows a private soft opening marked by a blessing from a monk, a common practice in Burmese culture, intended to bring prosperity and good fortune to the new business.
Co-owner Nyo Nyo Lin, inspired by her mother’s upbringing in Myanmar, describes the menu as a carefully curated selection of time-honored dishes rooted in family-owned recipes passed down through generations. Drawing from her grandmother’s repertoire—once featured in the restaurants their family owned in Myanmar—the menu is a tribute to the country’s rich culinary heritage. Situated at the crossroads of South and Southeast Asia, Burmese cuisine offers a unique fusion of bold flavors, combining the tangy spices of Indian curries with the sweet and zesty notes found in Thai dishes.
Highlights of the menu include Mohinga, Myanmar’s beloved national dish, featuring rice noodles in a lemongrass-infused fish broth, adorned with garnishes like boiled eggs, crispy fritters, and fresh cilantro. Guests can also enjoy comforting dishes like Coconut Chicken Soup and Khay Oh (a bean vermicelli soup with pork or chicken), as well as crispy appetizers such as samosas, Burmese tempura, and fried pork rolls.
This opening adds to the dynamic growth of Kinetik’s retail spaces, following the recent launch of Mochinut and Roll Up, a dual concept eatery by sibling entrepreneurs Loan and Thaison Nguyen and co-owner Khalil Diab. Their Bay View location expands on the success of their Glendale Mochinut shop, with the addition of Roll Up, a Vietnamese spring roll and noodle bowl concept.
Loan Nguyen, inspired by her Vietnamese heritage and a recent trip that sparked the idea, sought to bring fresh, nutritious dining options to the Bay View community. Mochinut, renowned for its Hawaiian-inspired mochi donuts made with rice flour, offers a delightful fusion of textures and flavors, including Strawberry, Churro, Yuzu (a tangy lemon-orange glaze), and Ube (a nutty vanilla flavor from purple yams). The menu also features Korean rice flour corn dogs, bubble tea, and creamy soft-serve ice cream.
The retail spaces at Kinetik Apartments, managed by New Land Enterprises, are becoming a vibrant hub for local businesses. In addition to Ni Burmese and Mochinut/Roll Up, tenants include Eyes on the Lake (a boutique optometry practice), JB Nails & Spa (offering nail care, waxing, and lash extensions), and Paloma Taco and Tequila (a lively eatery with a wide selection of tacos, vegan-friendly options, and a creative non-alcoholic beverage menu).
“It’s been inspiring to see this neighborhood come alive again,” shares Joey Wisniewski, Senior Development Coordinator at New Land. “With the completion of Zillman Park and the incredible variety of bars and restaurants establishing themselves here, this stretch of KK has become a true hotspot. We’re proud to play a role in revitalizing Bay View, supporting local businesses, and bringing fresh energy to the community.”
