Every Wednesday at noon, Ryan Schleicher, Evan Rytlewski, and Matt Wild take to the WMSE airwaves to discuss all things Milwaukee. This half-hour fun-fest is called The Disclaimer, so named because none of the oft-ridiculous views expressed on the show necessarily reflect the views of the hosts’ employers. Milwaukee music, Milwaukee art, Milwaukee events, and D.I.Y. lawn care tips are frequently discussed—and rarely agreed upon. The Disclaimer: Talk radio for the sane.

On Tuesday, Milwaukee’s Zoning, Neighborhoods and Development Committee recommended giving permanent historic status to part of the Gettelman Brewery, a 19th-century structure scheduled for demolition by MillerCoors. But, as Milwaukee Journal Sentinel writer Kathy Flanigan points out in “From Gettelman Brewery to the Domes, Milwaukee has trouble saying goodbye,” the dilapidated Gettelman “is not even a footnote on brewery tours,” and is better known as a SWAT training facility than a historic site. Why is it, Flanigan wonders, that Milwaukee has such trouble saying goodbye to its past? Ryan, Evan, and Matt wonder the same thing, bringing up the online uproar over Von Trier’s impending makeover, the gnashing of teeth over Atomic Records’ closing back in 2009, and a host of other “use it or lose it” examples. Ryan and Evan conclude the half hour with some Brewers (and Cubs) talk, and a frazzled Matt misidentifies the Gettelman as a Pabst building (sorry!).
