Ever instantly fall in love with a new song? Ever instantly fall in love with a new song that happens to be a new song by a local artist? Ever instantly fall in love with a new song that happens to be a new song by a local artist and then struggle to come up with a clever and not-too-cloying way of conveying your love in words? Of course I have. I mean, of course you have.
Anyway, the song is “I Require.” It’s the debut single from Milwaukee band Dialogues. It’s an alternately crunchy and bouncy alt/indie-rock ditty that the band says is about “getting older and finding more self reliance, and expressing loyalty and dedication to one’s friends and partners.” That’s a great theme. It’s a great song. It ends with a bonkers saxophone solo. More songs should end with a bonkers saxophone solo. Listen to “I Require” now:
Dialogues is a bit of a Milwaukee supergroup—singer Emily Wagner-Morrow, guitarist Joe Kirschling, bassist Mark Zbikowski, and drummer Quinn Cory have impeccable resumes that stretch back to the ’00s. (The sax solo, by the way, is the work of the ever-busy Olivia Dobbs.)
“When I think about the song, it’s celebratory and joyous…and accepting the messiness of myself,” says Wagner-Morrow. Look for more Dialogues goodness—celebratory, joyous, and gleefully messy—on the group’s upcoming self-titled debut album.
