In just a few short years, Klassik has established himself as one of the city’s best (and most versatile) artists, deftly mixing hip-hop, R&B, jazz, and pop into a smooth, crowd-pleasing cocktail. 2012’s In The Making landed at a plum #11 on our list of the 50 best Milwaukee albums of the 2010s (so far), and last year’s YRP (Young Rising Phenoms) was no slouch, either. One of YRP’s standout tracks, “Light,” nicely shows off Klassik’s multifaceted musical approach, with an ascending, featherweight chorus; a nimble, mid-song rap; and a hazy, chilled-out vibe. Now, there’s a similarly winning video for “Light,” directed by Klassik himself.

Shot in black and white, the clip finds Klassik facing a common problem—finding a light for his cigarette—and coming up with a decidedly uncommon solution—following a woman dressed all in white across the city. It’s a nifty visual metaphor for the song’s searching lyrics, and a nice fit for its downtempo mood. Check it out below, and be sure to catch Klassik at Summerfest Wednesday, July 2 on the Miller Lite Oasis stage. Bring an extra lighter.
