You can always count on Fuzzysurf to release some of the most inventive, ambitious, and all-around impressive music videos in Milwaukee. The indie rock outfit’s astounding body of visual work includes puppetry, murder mystery concepts, oodles of animation, costumes galore, and story-driven efforts that span multiple neighborhoods and involve dozens of extras. About six weeks removed from casting a Lilliput Records-browsing one-shot project into the world, the band is now taking to the sea for its latest music video undertaking.

Today, Fuzzysurf released the video for “Don’t Go Overboard,” a standout single off the group’s genre-jumping double LP entitled Chameleons. Taking a somewhat literal approach with the song’s title, the video features the band’s members acting as the crew aboard a vessel that faces arduous weather conditions and dangerous sea creatures that threaten their very survival.

The video was shot at Marquette University’s Helfaer Theatre by director and frequent Fuzzysurf collaborator Tommy Simms of Simwig Studios. The nautical-themed effort also gets a huge boost from Ann Vollrath, whose cardboard-constructed set pieces—combined with quirky choreography and the use of (mostly) practical effects—help give the feeling of a live theatrical production. It takes a lot for Fuzzysurf to outdo itself when it comes to music videos, but this honestly could be their best one yet. Decide for yourself and set sail on an aquatic adventure by watching the “Don’t Go Overboard” video below.
