Everyone knows the absolutely true story of music legend “Weird Al” Yankovic. How his parents disapproved of his accordion playing. How he rocketed to fame on the strength of his original song “Eat It,” and how Michael Jackson parodied the song with “Beat It.” How…well, you know the rest.
But have you seen this 100% true origin story dramatized in a 100% true biopic? And have you seen that 100% true biopic on the big screen? Well, the answer to the second question is likely NO, because Weird: The Al Yankovic Story was released directly to The Roku Channel in 2022. But on Wednesday, August 20, 2025, we’ll be screening it at the Avalon Atmospheric Theater. Reserved-seating tickets to the 7 p.m. show are $11.50 and are on sale NOW. Buckle up.
Yep, this is the one where Daniel Radcliffe plays Yankovic, where Evan Rachel Wood plays Madonna, and where a host of oddball celebrities play a host of other oddball celebrities in an infamous pool party scene. And yep, we’re screening Weird in honor of Al’s shows at Breese Stevens Field in Madison on September 12, and Riot Fest in Chicago on September 19. (No Milwaukee dates, sadly.) Will there be an Al-themed afterparty like the ones we did with our previous screenings of UHF? Maybe. Will this screening sell out like our previous screenings of UHF? Definitely.
As always, the screening will be sponsored by our friends at Lakefront Brewery, Gruber Law Offices, and Skilos: A Family Pet Store. Oh, and we’ll totally run the fake Funny Or Die Al biopic trailer from 2013 that inspired the actual 2022 movie, too. Weird!
