Looking for a roundup of Milwaukee food and drink news? Then take a bite of our cleverly titled, bi-weekly Food/Drink Roundup! This week: What’s next for the soon-to-be-former Ardent space?
• Last week, Chef Justin Carlisle announced the imminent closure of his fine-dining stalwart, Ardent. “We want to announce that December 31st will be Ardent Tasting Room and The Lounge last day of service. It is time to close this chapter for now,” Carlisle’s announcement read. “The last 11 years have been nothing short of unbelievable and amazing. Ardent has achieved more than we ever thought possible. Thank you to all the past and present staff, family and friends. To all the patrons and diners that have walked thru our grey door over the years thank you so much for your support.”
So what’s next for the lil’ basement space at 1751 Farwell Ave.? Carlisle hinted at a new operator in his initial announcement; in a subsequent chat with Urban Milwaukee, he hinted at one again:
Carlisle didn’t identify the incoming operators, but said he has a close relationship with them. “The dream really was to be able to pass it along to somebody,” he said of the Ardent space, noting that new owners will soon take over the lease.
“They’re going to be extremely wonderful in the restaurant community,” he added. “For me to know that someone who has been a part of my life—on and off for 20-some years—is now going to get a space to make their own restaurant, it’s wonderful.”
We—along with every other media outlet in town—will stay glued to the city’s license application search page to get you the identity of the new operator as soon as it drops. [Urban Milwaukee]
