In this installment of our semi-regular Food/Drink Roundup: SportClub and Mother’s!

• Roughly six months after abruptly closing, downtown sports bar and restaurant SportClub, 750 N. Jefferson St., announced its reopening on Wednesday. When will it reopen? Well, Wednesday. In fact, it’s open RIGHT NOW.

“The wait is officially over…SportClub is back!” reads a social media post. “Doors are open and lunch service starts today. Catch us every weekday beginning at 11:00 AM. Bosnia & Herzegovina vs Qatar at 2pm. Let’s make up for lost time.”

The reopening has been…confusing. SportClub, along with neighboring businesses Barrel Burrito and Experts Only, were initially owned by Mike Eitel’s Caravan Hospitality Group. After their closure in January, a former SportClub manager, Henry Delcid Meza, along with two business partners, filed applications to open “Sports-Club” in the former SportClub, and Burrito Donkey in the former site of Barrel Burrito and Experts Only. Those applications were soon dropped. Then, in April, Delcid Meza and two different business partners, Drew Deuster and JJ Kovacovich of Wild Planet Hospitality Group, filed applications to simply reopen SportClub.

“We’re not making much changes,” Deuster told the Milwaukee Journal Sentinel in May. “There’ll probably be a few menu tweaks and possibly some different weekly specials…but in terms of layout and decor and even menu and things like that, everything else is going to pretty much remain the same.”

• Roughly one year after setting up shop in Bay View’s White House building, small plates restaurant Mother’s, 2900 S. Kinnickinnic Ave., has closed. The story was first reported by the Milwaukee Journal Sentinel. The restaurant’s Instagram page says “Permanently Closed.” There was drama.

• Roughly six months after opening in the former Sabor Tropical space at 2258 S. Kinnickinnic Ave., South Indian-Chinese restaurant Chettinadu House…appears to be closed? An eviction notice has graced the restaurant’s front window for a week. Here’s a photo from Tuesday:

Calls to the business result in an automated “this number hasn’t set up a voicemail yet” message.
