Looking for a roundup of Milwaukee food and drink news? Then take a bite of our cleverly titled, bi-weekly Food/Drink Roundup! This week: Mother’s!
• It was only a few weeks ago that SAGE, the restaurant on the first floor of the historic White House building in Bay View, 2900 S. Kinnickinnic Ave., closed its doors. At the time, building and restaurant owner Allison Meinhardt said that the White House was still for sale (it went on the market in October 2024), and that the SAGE space was now available for lease.
Well, someone has leased it! Mother’s, an “LGBTQ+-friendly restaurant and third space,” will soon open in the former SAGE space. Mother’s is the creation of former Ardent sous chef Vanessa Rose. Rose previously planned to open her first brick-and-mortar concept in the old Company Brewing space in Riverwest.
“Mother’s will be open from 5 to 10 p.m Thursday to Monday, with the third space opening earlier and offering coffee and tea service,” says the Milwaukee Journal Sentinel. It continues:
The dinner menu will be a continuation of the elevated, globally inspired dishes Rose has served at Mother’s pop-ups, the “kitschy, campy” dishes that fuse cuisines from across the world while highlighting seasonal ingredients sourced from local farmers and producers.

• Speaking of restaurants opening their first brick-and-mortar locations in Bay View, vegan pizza favorite Cedar Teeth will soon open its first brick-and-mortar location at 2375-2379 S. Howell Ave. in Bay View. [BizTimes]
• Apparently tired of their building getting hit by cars, the owners of The Lafayette Place at 1978 N. Farwell Ave. will NOT be reopening. The latest car crash happened in September 2024; the restaurant has been closed since. [Urban Milwaukee]
• The former Good City Brewing taproom at 2108 N. Farwell Ave. has transformed into Wayfinder MKE. The “globally inspired restaurant and brewery” is open NOW. [OnMilwaukee]
• A new Vietnamese restaurant, Saigon Baguette, plans to open soon in that little East Side strip mall where Blockbuster Video used to be, 2338 N. Farwell Ave. [Milwaukee Journal Sentinel]

• New random photo of the fish fry we got last Friday at Pizza Man on Downer Avenue. (We were gonna get fish at Henry’s, which recently revamped its menu, but the kitchen was closed.) It was good!
