Depending on which news sources you follow, Milwaukee is going through either a “renaissance” or a “reinvention.” However you want to define it, it’’ safe to say that Milwaukee is currently building a lot of new and wonderful things! Here are some of them, brought to you by GTG Home Buyers!

• Downtown’s historic Mitchell Building has been used for offices since its construction in 1876. But now, it’s going to be converted into—you’ll never guess—apartments!

Developer Joshua Jeffers of J. Jeffers & Co. plans to lose the office space and add 60 apartments to the building, located at 207 E. Michigan St. Jeffers did something similar with the neighboring Mackie Building several years ago.

“We’ll preserve and incorporate the many distinctive features of this beautiful building into the apartment units,” Jeffers says in a statement. “Many units will showcase walk-in bank vaults, as well as 16-to-18-foot-high ceilings, enormous 10-by-4-foot windows and original hardwood floors.” [Milwaukee Journal Sentinel]

• Irving Place Records, 1627 E. Irving Pl., will soon be twice as nice. The East Side record store plans to expand into its neighboring space, formerly occupied by a record and video store called Blast Radius. [OnMilwaukee]

• The blank west wall of the Wisconsin Tower, 606 W. Wisconsin Ave., may be getting a big ol’ LED billboard. [Milwaukee Business Journal]

• What will happen to the old Milwaukee Public Museum building once MPM moves into its new (as-yet-unnamed) “Future Museum” in 2027? Milwaukee County has hired a development team “to conduct a due diligence review of the building and develop three scenarios for future development. The report from the project team is expected before the end of the year.” [Urban Milwaukee]
