Depending on which news sources you follow, Milwaukee is going through either a “renaissance” or a “reinvention.” However you want to define it, it’s safe to say that Milwaukee is currently building a lot of new and wonderful things! Here are some of them, brought to you by GTG Home Buyers!
• File this one under “All the major East Side streets they’re proposing to tear up in the next five years or so.” The Wisconsin Department of Transportation (WisDOT) is proposing a project to completely repave Prospect and Farwell Avenues, beginning in either spring 2031 or spring 2032.
For Prospect Avenue, the pavement replacement project would stretch from Bradford Avenue in the north, to Wells Street in the south. For Farwell Avenue, the project would stretch from Bradford Avenue in the north (and would include a chunk of Bradford Avenue itself), to Knapp Street in the south. In other words, pretty much every inch of both Prospect and Farwell.
The proposed project is part of a larger WIS 32 pavement replacement project throughout the city and state.

Why do they want to tear these roads up? Well, the proposed improvements include: replace entire pavement structure; remove and replace all curbs and gutters; bike and pedestrian accommodation updates; safety and operational improvements; signal replacements; and lighting updates.
Do you have some thoughts on the proposed project? Of course you do. WisDOT will hold an open house meeting on Tuesday, September 23, at the Wisconsin Conservatory of Music (1584 N. Prospect Ave.) from 4-6 p.m. Be there! And be sure to ask them why they’re doing this when they JUST got done installing a bunch of bump-outs and speed humps along Prospect (seen in the top above).
• The Milwaukee Repertory Theater will host a ribbon cutting ceremony for its new home—dubbed the Associated Bank Theater Center, 108 E. Wells St.—on Saturday, October 11.
“Be part of this historic moment as Milwaukee Rep officially opens the doors to its new home in the Associated Bank Theater Center,” a media alert reads. “Celebrate the culmination of over six years of planning, more than 250,000 hours of construction and $80.1M raised to bring about a bold new era of theater in Milwaukee with a special Ribbon Cutting Ceremony ahead of the opening night gala concert with Broadway Legend Bernadette Peters.”
