On November 8, Milwaukee lost one of its most accomplished and influential hip-hop voices when Twan Mack passed away at the age of 54. In addition to pioneering the “adult contemporary hip-hip” style, Mack was a member of Kali Tribe in the ’90s, a festival fixture, an opener routinely called upon when some of rap’s biggest names wanted local support, a frequent tour mate of Arrested Development, and a positive influence on generations of Milwaukee artists who followed in his footsteps. Though we’re fortunate to still have his prolific and abundant body of work, he will be missed immensely.

On Saturday, January 11, many of Twan Mack’s friends, collaborators, and contemporaries will come together at The Cooperage for a day-long event that will pay tribute to him. “The Sound Of Kareem City” will run from 3 p.m. to close. Along the way, there will be performances by BLAX, Dame Ellzey, DJ DRiPSweat, King Myles, Rusty P’s, Kamonzi, NilexNile, Spacecrime, and many more. The event is free, but donations and money raised from merch sales will be given to Mack’s mother.

Save the date and come to The Cooperage to celebrate the life, the art, and the lasting impact of one of Milwaukee’s best on January 11, 2025. You can find more information on “The Sound Of Kareem City” below.
