Last year, we stumbled upon Shontrail by way of the Milwaukee-based singer’s “Warm Heart” single. That standout song—which earned a spot on our Favorite Music Of 2022 year-end list—was part of Shontrail’s Silver Star album that showcased his artistic range, delicate melodies, and songwriting style that can’t quite be confined into any single genre. As impressive as the debut album is, it’s just the tip of the iceberg for the up-and-coming musician.

This month, Shontrail released “Red Rabbit” on all streaming platforms. The song builds on the dreamy, post-punk sound of its predecessors, but also signals a new sonic direction and displays noticeable growth. “This single is the start of a new era for me as an artist,” Shontrail tells Milwaukee Record. “It’s time for me to keep dropping music more consistently.”

He’ll do just that with Lost In Limbo, a forthcoming sophomore album Shontrail is planning to put out this summer. Another single from the record is scheduled to drop next month, with a full seven- or eight-song release expected shortly after that. Once Lost In Limbo sees the light of day, long-awaited live shows will soon follow.

“The direction with this new project just sounds more confident and loose,” Shontrail says. “It’ll be a great reflection of who I am as an artist. I’m not a fan of sticking to one genre, so it’s for sure a mix of different sounds and colors.”

As we anxiously await to hear what Lost In Limbo holds for us, we’ll bide our time by listening to “Red Rabbit” on repeat. We urge you to do the same.
