On the morning of October 26, Milwaukee artist, bartender, and all-around local treasure Cara Corder was the victim of a hit-and-run. The incident—which was the result of absolute losers street racing like idiots—caused serious, life-threatening injuries. Though none of the garbage humans responsible for the senseless tragedy have come forward to take responsibility yet, Corder has thankfully survived and seems to be on an encouraging path to recovery.

With mounting medical bills and other essential expenses that must be handled as she continues to recover, a GoFundMe has been set up for Corder. Beyond that ongoing fundraising campaign, Promises (located at 538 W. National Ave.) and a wide range of bands composed of Corder’s friends and co-workers are planning to come together for a one-off festival that aims to bring more money her way. On Saturday, December 7, the Walker’s Point bar and venue will host “CaraFest,” in which six bands will join forces for a can’t-miss show for an extremely good cause.

“It’s important for us to have CaraFest at Promises because it’s one of her main spots. She hosts Caraoke on Tuesdays normally and her art is all over the bar,” says Sarah Turbo of Promises and the participating CaraFest band Sex Scenes. “She’s a staple for us. Cara is such a good friend to us, so it’s time we do something for her.”

CaraFest will feature performances by Power Of Dusk, Sex Scenes, Diamond Life, No Motel, World In Action, and Destros. The show begins at 8 p.m. and there’s a $10 cover that will be donated to Corder. If you can’t attend CaraFest, please consider donating to the GoFundMe campaign.
