If you didn’t see Milwaukee Record’s Virtual Summer Festival last month, you missed a ton of great previously recorded performances and homemade music videos from close to 40 Milwaukee bands, rappers, and solo artists. Though each one was special in its own way, one of the absolute standouts from that batch of videos was one from Paper Holland.

The tropical-tinged indie rock outfit came together recently (virtually speaking, at least) to craft a unique video that manages to salvage fun and activity from a time of isolation. Footage of members skateboarding, canoeing, cycling, hanging out in parks, and spending time at home during quarantine is paired with the band’s downtrodden song “Back To The Sea” off 2018’s Galápagos.

“We wanted to share a fragment of what each of us has been up to while we’ve been separated over these past few months,” guitarist Andy Kosanke says. “The video shows ways that we’ve each been keeping active during quarantine, but each shot only has one person in the frame to represent the loneliness and isolation that a lot of us have been battling.”

Though Paper Holland members appear alone, Lora Kosanke, Kozzy, Bethany Powers, and Cynthia Zanow shot portions of the video. Joe Ludwig collected the footage and edited it into one cohesive, wonderful package. Take a solo trip for a few minutes and watch Paper Holland’s “Back To The Sea” music video below.
