Back in July 2015, IfIHadAHiFi and Body Futures drummer (and occasional Milwaukee Record contributor) DJ Hostettler announced the formation of “Unintimidated: Wisconsin Musicians Against Scott Walker,” a multi-media project featuring more than a dozen Wisconsin punk bands recording new songs to vent their frustrations with the divisive governor. Last week saw the release of the first “Unintimidated” video/song, FowlMouth’s “Too Tired To Riot,” which delightfully skewered the phenomenon of online “slacktivism.” This week, Oshkosh’s Haunted Heads toss their hats in the anti-Walker ring with “285 Feet Tall,” an insanely catchy tune written from the perspective of the guv himself. “My hands, my arms are made of wood / With billion dollar strings / I can be anything,” goes the soaring, none-too-subtle chorus.

Bands taking part in the “Unintimidated” project (including Heavy Hand, Volunteer, Testa Rosa, and more) were each given a two-hour block of time to record their songs at Howl Street Recordings last summer. The resulting tracks will be released via online videos, digital downloads, and a physical CD/DVD/zine this spring. Proceeds from the project will be donated to Planned Parenthood of Wisconsin and various Milwaukee soup kitchens.
