Before Marvel movies were MARVEL MOVIES, there was Blade. The bloody 1998 vampire-action film based on the superhero with the same name was a box office smash, a fan favorite, and the progenitor for the onslaught of comic book movies that have followed in the quarter century since its release. Blade is great and we’re screening it at Avalon Theater on Wednesday, June 29. Tickets are available NOW!

If you’re somehow unfamiliar with this movie, Blade stars Wesley Snipes as a sword-wielding human with vampire strengths who squares off against some fierce full-blooded vampires played by the likes of Stephen Dorff and Donal Logue. The Stephen Norrington-directed film raked in approximately three times its modest $45 million budget and, for better or worse, set the stage for countless (far more tame) comic book movie adaptations in the decades to follow.

Tickets to the 6:30 p.m. screening are $11. As always, our pals at Lakefront Brewery and Educators Credit Union will be sponsoring the film.
