When you think of intense, white-knuckle thrill rides, you probably think of skydiving, whitewater rafting, or that one roller coaster at Great America where you had to stand up and your head got knocked around so often you’d get a concussion. (What was that one called again?) But no, as these eight videos will prove, the true intense, white-knuckle thrill ride of all time is working in TV news. In Milwaukee. In the ’70s and ’80s.

So here they are! All of these promos are from Channel 6 (back when it was a CBS affiliate), all of them come courtesy of the ever-vigilant TV Madman (who rules), and most of them feature legendary sportscaster Earl Gillespie (father of John Gillespie, who hosts his own fishing show). BUCKLE UP.
